Kiel Marlgol.
***
Residue tahu tentang Kiel Marlgol.
Jakun Bardrog bergerak-gerak. Dia menelan ludah dengan kering.
"...Aku tidak punya hal seperti itu. Bukan untuk orang dengan pangkat serendah aku."
"Kau berbohong."
"Aku mengatakan yang sebenarnya..."
"Pertama-tama, kau bukan perwira berpangkat rendah."
Residue berbicara dengan ekspresi acuh tak acuh.
"Penjara antar galaksi Amdal.
"Sebagaimana dugaanku, Letnan Kolonel. Ini akan membuat segalanya jauh lebih mudah."
"...Apa yang kau inginkan dariku?"
"Metode komunikasi dengan Kiel. Jalur langsung, tanpa memutar, tanpa persetujuan dari siapa pun."
"Kalau begitu aku akan dieksekusi."
"Atau kau akan mati di tanganku. Bukankah itu pilihan yang mudah?"
"..."
Tepat pada saat itu. Ketukan terdengar.
"Kapten?"
Lalu ketukan lain terdengar.
Setelah jeda singkat, pintu tiba-tiba terbuka.
Bruk.
Penjaga yang menyerbu itu tumbang begitu saja. Wajahnya menghantam lantai, mengeluarkan air liur dari mulutnya.
"Eh...?"
Bardrog mengeluarkan suara bingung.
"Seberapa kuat aku."
Percikan seperti listrik berderak.
"Siapa... kau?"
"Bajak laut luar angkasa."
"Bajak laut luar angkasa...? Aku belum pernah melihat wajahmu sebelumnya..."
"Ah. Pantas saja. Ini baru hari pertamaku hari ini."
"Kau bajingan gila...!"
Residue menggoyangkan jari telunjuknya.
"Itu bukan frasa yang kusuka."
Dia menjentik dahi wakil wali penjara, membuatnya pingsan, lalu mengalihkan pandangannya kembali ke Bardrog.
"Kalau begitu, Letnan Kolonel. Aku yakin kau sudah paham situasinya sekarang."
"..."
"Kalau begitu katakan padaku.
In the current world, there aren’t many organizations with a reputation significant enough to carry meaning, in other words, ones with real name value. That’s because numerous worlds have merged together.
Most organizations failed to maintain their own framework and disbanded, and even those that managed to survive did not last long.
There are several reasons for this.
Failure to adapt to the Great World,
Suddenly changed environments,
Conflicts with other races or internal discord...
Yet in such a world, there were organizations that instead expanded their influence, and new emerging powers as well.
For the former, a prime example would be the PeaceFinder Armlet. In the past, it was merely a small, covert organization from some world, but now it is regarded almost as a missionary of peace throughout the entire world. This group, in particular, enjoys a favorable public reputation, and unless one is in a completely isolated region, it is treated with respect everywhere.
As for the latter, that would undoubtedly refer to the Half King and her subordinates. Strangely, this group did not have any formal name. Perhaps they themselves do not consider themselves an organization.
The Half King chose to fight alone, and the subordinate forces provide her with unwavering support so she can do so. However, no one has been able to clearly understand the nuances of their relationship yet, so people simply refer to them as “the Half King and her vassals” or “the Half King and the Void Lords”.
However, there is another organization that influences every corner of the world even more significantly and gathers the most information.
It is, without question, the Grand Galactic Alliance.
Although it does not enjoy the benevolent reputation of the PeaceFinder Armlet, nor does it possess overwhelming strength like the Half King and her vassals, it was the fastest to adapt to the transformed world.
The Grand Galactic Alliance had already formed its vast influence during the time of the “Great Fusion” which is now considered the precursor to full integration of the worlds.
It is said that the foundation of this organization was a race of outer gods who once governed an expansive universe, and even within the entire unified cosmos, their scientific and cultural achievements rank among the top.
Even amidst the chaos of this world, the Grand Galactic Alliance maintained an incredibly vast structure and an organized system, more than 90% of that sustainability was thanks to the presence of the organization's supreme leader.
Someone who understands an ultra-massive organization beyond the concept of countries or planets in complete detail.
The head and final decision-maker of the Grand Galactic Alliance.
Kiel Marlgol.
***
Residue knows about Kiel Marlgol. Likely, he knows far better than the idiots around Kiel who mistakenly believe they are trusted by him.
Kiel is a formidable individual.
His personal power is considerable, but that is not what Residue, once the Lightning God, acknowledged.
Planning and meticulousness, control, and charisma.
Residue hadn't encountered anyone who could perfectly control an organization more than that for a long time.
─There are probably very few who understand the current world accurately.
Right now, the ones who come to mind are Futurix, the master of ultra-futuristic civilization under the Half King; the “Council of Absolutes” in the Top Universe; the “Black Horned Demon God” unparalleled in cunning; and though perhaps not quite on their level, the PeaceFinder Armlet, which is doing its best to understand the situation...
There may be other groups or entities that Residue is unaware of, but for now, he decided to keep just these in mind.
The reason he suddenly began considering them was because of his destination.
He knew where he needed to go, but not how to get there.
With the world now united, old geography and coordinates had become completely meaningless.
Lukas might still have been able to visit places he had previously been to, but unfortunately, Residue did not possess such a talent. Therefore, he needed to contact someone who had a precise understanding of the world.
First, “Futurix”. He was reluctant. Residue is currently in a hostile relationship with the Half King. The day will come when he meets her again, but now is not the time. Besides, it was certain that Hide was among the Twelve Void Lords, so he wanted to avoid any encounter if possible.
Second, the “Council of Absolutes”. In truth, it was the most tempting group… but those inflexible fools weren’t the type who could be swayed by threats or coercion. In order to get help from them, one would have to bow their head and ask politely, something that Residue’s pride would never allow. So, he postponed that option as a last resort.
Third, the “PeaceFinder Armlet”. However, according to Residue’s expectations, they likely wouldn't know the location of the destination. They still appeared to lack knowledge about the regions within the “Void World”. Furthermore, compared to other groups, they had a severe shortage of total information.
Iris was smart and useful in many ways, but she was still inexperienced.
So only one group remained.
A group that could be contacted at any time, could be coerced into revealing information, and understood the current world well enough.
Making first contact with the Grand Galactic Alliance was not difficult at all.
Their force was so vast that as long as one exited the atmosphere, it was easier to find them than to locate an island within an archipelago.
Residue made a light leap into space and then selected the largest vessel among those navigating nearby.
It was Bardrog’s misfortune that it happened to be the intergalactic prison Amdal.
“A d-direct connection with the Supreme Commander…”
Bardrog’s Adam’s apple twitched. He gulped down dryly.
“…I don’t have anything like that. Not someone of my low rank.”
“You’re telling lies.”
“I’m telling the truth…”
“First of all, you are not a low-ranking officer.”
Residue spoke with a disinterested expression.
“Intergalactic prison Amdal. Looking at the actual size of the ship, it’s even larger than I expected. Judging by the Grand Galactic Alliance’s rank structure, someone who commands a ship of this scale must at least be of officer rank.”
“…”
Residue turned his gaze to the cap of the alliance’s military uniform. Upon seeing the rank insignia attached there, he grinned.
“As I thought, Lieutenant Colonel. This will make things a lot easier.”
“…What do you want from me?”
“A communication method with Kiel. A direct line, no detours, no approvals from anyone else.”
“Then I’ll be executed.”
“Or you’ll die by my hand. Isn’t it an easy choice?”
“…”
It was at that moment. A knock was heard.
“Captain?”
A deep voice.
Bardrog blinked in confusion, unsure of how to respond.
Then came another knock.
Residue realized that this knock had a certain rhythm to it.
After a short pause, the door suddenly burst open.
Standing in the doorway was a prison guard with a solid build.
And in this intergalactic prison, “guard” meant the elite of the elite combat personnel.
“An intruder!”
After surveying the inside of the captain’s office with his large eyes, he shouted loudly.
Then he pulled out a strangely shaped baton from his belt and, without a shred of hesitation, charged directly at Residue. Residue admired the movement, which had no unnecessary waste.
Thud.
The charging guard collapsed just like that. Face-first into the floor, drooling from his mouth.
“Uh…?”
Bardrog let out a dazed voice.
Residue squatted down and tapped the guard’s head.
“His voice was louder than I expected, so I ended up knocking him out.”
“Huh?”
“In order to make our conversation go more smoothly, I thought I should demonstrate something.”
“Demonstrate what?”
At that moment, the sound of numerous footsteps approached, and dozens of guards appeared at the doorway. Among them was the deputy warden, considered the strongest combatant aboard the ship.
“How powerful I am.”
A spark like electricity crackled.
It didn’t even touch Bardrog’s body, yet he felt a tingling sensation like nothing he had experienced before.
The ones it actually touched reacted far more directly.
Dozens of guards collapsed on the spot without a single groan. Like puppets with their strings cut, they dropped limply.
"Ugh... urk..."
Only the deputy warden remained, holding out on one knee.
"Even though I controlled my strength, I didn't expect there would be someone who could endure it."
“Who… are you?”
“A space pirate.”
“Space pirate…? I’ve never seen your face before…”
The deputy warden knew the faces of most of the universe's most dangerous criminals. There were no matching features. In other words, this wasn’t an intrusion into Amdal to break out a fellow inmate.
"Ah. No wonder. It's only my first day as of today."
“You crazy son of a bitch…!”
Residue wagged his index finger.
“That’s not a phrase I like.”
He flicked the deputy warden’s forehead, knocking him out, then turned his gaze back to Bardrog.
“Well then, Lieutenant Colonel. I trust you’ve figured out the situation by now.”
“…”
“Your expression lit up for a moment when these guys came in. That means they were troops you could rely on. I imagine you also got a good look at what happened afterward. I guarantee you, even if there were a hundred times stronger soldiers than these, a hundred times over, none of them could lay a finger on me. So why do you think I went through the trouble of performing this whole dramatic show right in front of you?”
“…I don’t know.”
Bardrog responded in a somewhat more respectful tone.
“Because it’s annoying. Searching the nearby ships for someone with the authority to communicate directly with Kiel, and then going through another round of explanations and threats, it’s all too troublesome. So I figured I’d wrap everything up with the first ship. Do you follow me so far?”
“Yes, I understand.”
“Then tell me. How can I contact Kiel Marlgol?”
Bardrog realized this was the final warning.
What would happen if he refused here? It was hard to believe that the power Residue had shown earlier was real, but one thing was clear, at the very least, Residue held the power of life and death over both Bardrog and the unconscious guards.
Though brief, the inner turmoil scorched his throat.
“…Actually, I’m not the real authority behind Amdal.”
Bardrog ultimately chose to confess the truth.
“Oh? What do you mean by that?”
“As you said, there is indeed a contact channel to the Supreme Commander. But if contact is made, every single being aboard this ship will die. Including you.”
“By whom?”
Bardrog responded with a frightened voice.
“…The truth is, Amdal was seized long ago by a certain wicked being. He’s someone of such deeply laid plans that even the Supreme Commander himself hasn’t realized it.”
An intrigued expression lit up on Residue’s face.
It wasn’t a lie.
If everything this man said was true, and even Kiel was unaware, then the true ruler of Amdal was a being of formidable cunning.
“He disguises himself as a prisoner and uses the lowest detention cell as his personal quarters. Let me say this up front. You’re strong, no doubt. But I honestly don’t think you can beat him.”
“What’s his name?”
With a face twisted in both disgust and fear, as if speaking the name of the most evil demon in history, Bardrog spat out:
“Rirokan Confrost…!”
What a ridiculously hard name to memorize.
“The lowest detention cell, huh. …Hm?”
Residue, stroking his chin, suddenly looked toward the door.
“Luca.”
“Yes.”
Then a girl's face peeked out from outside the door.
“Do you remember the big guy who rushed at us the moment we boarded the ship?”
“Yes.”
“Bring him.”
“Yes.”
Her head, sticking out like a mole, popped back in.
While Bardrog was still standing there dazed, unable to grasp what was happening, Luca returned.
She was carrying a man five times her size slung over her back.
